Our Vision

Our aim is to promote the beauty, functionality and enduring quality of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Inspired by the principles of mottainai (a respect for resources and desire to avoid waste), and wabi-sabi (appreciation for simplicity, imperfection and beauty found in everyday life), we seek to offer products that encourage a more considered and meaningful way of living.

Our goal is not simply to sell beautiful products, but to share small moments of joy that can be enjoyed every day.

About Me (Jess)

Hi, I'm Jess (the founder of Hana & Hinoki).

I live in Western Sydney with my husband and our Frenchie, Bento. In my free time I enjoy film, cooking, video games, and getting lost in a good book with a cup of tea. In my day job, I am a senior secondary school teacher.

My connection with Japan began when I first visited in 2011. During that trip, I was capitvated by the craftsmanship and rich cultural heritage of traditional Japanese crafts. Since then, my appreciation for Japanese culture and handmade objects has continued to grow and inspire me to share the beauty of traditional crafts with others.

Thank you for supporting a small Australian business and joining me on my journey.
